Welcome to Dearing Elementary! The mission of the DRES library is to support curriculum taught in the classroom, enhance the lives of students through an understanding and love of literature, provide students with the information literacy training to become life long learners, and responsible users of ideas and information.
BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB
Dearing Elementary School Library is providing an exciting way to celebrate your child’s birthday. The “Birthday Book Club” is a way to make your child’s birthday special by celebrating at school with their classmates and friends. We will continue this tradition once we are back on campus.
If you join, your family will donate $15.00-$25.00 (you choose the amount that is affordable for your family) for a book to be given to the library media center’s collection at DRES. The student will select a book from a shelf of new books housed in the library office. A birthday label with the child’s name and birthday is placed inside the front cover of the book. The child’s picture with the chosen book is also added to a birthday book display in the library media center.
On the day closest to the student’s birthday, the book is presented to the child in their class. They “open” the birthday book box to show their selected book, along with a special birthday bookmark and eraser! They are the first person to check out the book, and it becomes part of a 2023-2024 special collection. (For students with summer birthdays, we will present the book on their ½ birthday.) Please understand that the birthday book is a part of the school library collection and will need to be returned within the standard check-out time period so other children may enjoy the special book after your child has enjoyed it! It is a gift that keeps on giving for many years to come!
Your donation is appreciated because it helps the library collection at DRES grow, specifically the Texas Award nominee books (Bluebonnet and 2 x 2)!
All families who wish to participate can pay with a check (made out to Dearing Elementary) or cash and must fill out the “Birthday Book Form” below for each child you would like to donate a birthday book for on their behalf. I will send home a Birthday Book Form in August and your child can return it to the library, along with the payment. I will accept them all year long!
